Apple Lane Daycare
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is your phone number? While I'm happy to answer any questions you may have and speak directly with you via the telephone it is often
difficult to have such conversations while caring for young children. Therefore I kindly request that you leave your telephone number so that I may
contact you at a time that minimizes disruptions to our day.
Where exactly are you located? In the past we listed our physical address on the website and gave it out upon request, unfortunately we had an
excessive number of people driving by very slowly in their cars trying to catch a glimpse of our daycare. This may seem harmless but it in fact it
made both the children and I uncomfortable. Now interested parties will not receive our exact physical location until they are ready to schedule an
appointment.
Do you provide care for infants? Sorry no infant care available.
How long is the waiting list and what is the expected turnover time? At times we do have an extended waiting list. However, parents tend to find
alternative childcare and if a vacancy becomes available are more likely to keep them in the childcare they have secured.
What is the total capacity in terms of number of children you will accept? 8
What are your hours? 7:00 - 5:30 Monday through Friday
Are you licensed? If so, for how long? I have been a licensed provider for 13 years.

Describe how you deal with parent/child separation, particularly in cases of separation anxiety.
Leaving mom or dad is very emotional for young children if I know that a child is having particular difficulty I will set out a series of age appropriate
manipulatives that might interest the child. Most of the time we feel that parents know their child best and allow them to separate in a manner that is
most comfortable to both the parent and child.
What will I be expected to provide? Diapers, wipes, lotion if your child has sensitive skin, diapering cream, sunscreen, pain relievers, at least 2
changes of weather appropriate clothing, 1 warm motion friendly jacket during cold months, 1 bottle for infant and liners if required, puddle
stomping boots during the wet months, water socks during the summer.
What type diapers would you prefer? Diapers are your choice
Can I use cloth? Yes. Dirty diapers will be sent home with you and cleans ones will be required before your child may attend daycare the next day.
Describe how you discipline? Please see our Philosophy page.
Describe how you handle toilet training.
We watch for signs that a child is ready to potty. In some cases mothers have been know to encourage their children by displaying a potty in the
home, reading books on potty training, talking about the process. At daycare if a child is ready to potty train we begin the process by teaching them
how to wash their hands on their own, then we follow by teaching them how to put on and take off their clothes including shoes (in my experience
when children can accomplish these task on their own potty training is most successful) . Then we pick a week to begin the potty training process
and try to proceed with as little pressure as possible. We take the child to the potty frequently and give them praise when they are successful and
show them how to clean up their messes when they are not. No negative comments allowed. Usually the children have success by the end of the
week if not we break for a brief respite and try again.
Describe organized activities you provide for children. Please see our Curriculum page.
Tell me about yourself. How did you decide to become a provider? I became a childcare provider when my son's providers (an absolutely
wonderful woman and her husband) decided to end their 13+ years of service to children.
What do you like most about being a provider? Children change your perspective and enlighten you in so many ways. They teach you to be
accepting of all types of personalities including your own.
How long do you plan to be one? Childcare is career choice for me and I plan on staying in service to children and families for at least 6 years
maybe more.
Can you describe what a typical day might be like for my child? Breakfast, clean up, basic skills review, art project, outside play, snack time,
clean up, story time, music play, manipulatives, Woven Word, outside play, lunch time, clean up, nap time, wake up, snack time, story time, free
play, pick up time.
Are you affiliated with a hospital? No

Describe the feedback I will receive about my child at the end of the day. If the day allows you will receive an e-mail listing the foods your child
has been offered at mealtimes and the activities they participated in.
What types of records to you maintain concerning my child’s behavior? Your child's behavior is observed daily and any patterns of unusual,
disruptive, or negative behavior will be brought to your attention. It has been my experience that negative behavior is frequently the result of

ask if any of the above may be the cause. Then I will respond accordingly.
